The Priceless Parrot Preserve is a small organization that aims to provide a new, permanent home for parrots who need one and to educate the public about parrots.

Learn more through our goals and mission statement.

The numerous responsibilities of the Priceless Parrot Preserve are carried out by a select
few individuals, none of which are paid.  The directors of the organization, Gene and Marietta
Avery, work full time without compensation to fulfill these responsibilities.  Their three children
often help with cleaning and outreach activities.  The Preserve currently has five volunteers who
contribute a total of 80-100 hours a week to assist with cleaning, socializing flock members,
outreach events, and fundraising.

A note from our directors (written by Gene):
"We are Gene and Marietta Avery, founders of The Priceless Parrot Preserve. We have both had pet birds of various kinds for most of our lives. I am also a licensed wildlife rehabilitator. We are a 501-C3 publicly funded organization. All our funding comes from tax deductible donations. My wife and I (and now our 3 children) have been involved with Exotic birds for many years.  Although I am  a licensed wildlife rehabilitator, I have gotten more and more involved with exotic birds. The numbers of neglected, abused and just plain throw-a-way birds has reached almost epidemic proportions. We have adopted and rescued Exotic birds on our own for many years; always taking money out of our own pocket because we loved these beautiful birds so much. The calls kept coming in to rescue or adopt more birds every week. The cost of their care, for food and vet bills, skyrocketed and we could no longer afford to do this on our own and still be able to save our friends. We decided to start our own exotic bird preserve - exclusively for exotic birds. When we first started rescuing and adopting Exotic birds we had a very hard time getting information. A lot of times it was like pulling teeth, or a big secret. We are all here for the birds. What's the difference as long as they are the ones that are being helped? We have learned a lot about our beautiful feathered friends in the past years. Some things from other people, some from our own flock, and a lot from research and the desire to help and do what is best for them. We do not own our birds, you see we are only their caregivers. Doing what's best for them is our primary obligation. Our next obligation is to make sure that the Exotic birds we take in will be well cared for. We cater to larger birds like Macaws and Cockatoos, as they are much harder to find a home for. Most people are very intimidated by their size and a beak that could take your finger off if they wanted to. We are not exclusive to just the large birds, we do handle the smaller species as well when   space allows."
